New Board of Review Policies - Affects All Parents

Parents,

The Parent Committee has initiated two new policies for every Scout's Board of Review (BOR). The BOR is the interview of a Scout, up for rank advancement, by a panel of three Parent Committee members.

First New Policy: At the end of a BOR, the panel makes suggestions to the boy about the interview and what the Scout could do to improve for their next BOR. The new policy will be to invite a boy's parent(s), and his patrol Assistant Scoutmaster, when the suggestions are given to the Scout.

The goal is to increase the effectiveness and usefulness of the panel's ideas. The thought is we can best achieve the goal by letting the adults hear and later reinforce the suggestions with their son (when they come up for advancement again). If a parent or Assistant Scoutmaster are not present when the BOR is done, one of the panel members will convey the information to them by telephone.

Second New Policy: A second BOR may be necessary if a boy is overly vague or does not provide some substance in their answers during the interview with the panel members.
.
The need for a second interview will probably be rare. And, of course, there are different expectations depending on a Scout's age and other factors. However, in pursuit of the best experience and lessons learned by the Scout, there will be times when a second interview is appropriate.
