Action Required: Troop vote to spend $3000 for Trailer

***The trailer sub-committee has addressed all the logistics to purchasing a trailer and found a one at a good price.***

The goal was to purchase prior to Summer camp therefore I am implementing an online vote. We need at least 50% or more of our registered committee members to vote and approve spending $3000 on a trailer.

Please vote using the following  survey monkey link. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LGL6RTZ

While registered committee member votes are needed to approve, I encourage all recipients to vote.  I want  to ensure we are spending money how the majority of the troop wants and wishes.

Please contact me if you have any  questions or concerns.

Thanks, Jeff Sherer

Question and Answers

·         Trailer endorsed by the Scoutmaster and ASM’s?

o    Forrest, Patrick, Randy, JoAnn, Glenn, Dave, Joe and Alex like the idea of a troop trailer; a good asset for the troop.

·         Price (Max tentatively approved is $3000)

o    Brand new 6x10 enclosed trailer (same size as the Council trailer you see at all the events)

o   Initial purchase? $2629

o    Decals: Approximately $450 to have a 2’ x 3’ logo on 4 sides (Will be added at a later time).

o   Registration? Annually or one time? $10/5 years.  Trailer will initially have to be registered to whoever picks up the trail er and then a transfer will need to be made to the Lion’s Club.

o   Taxes? Whatever the tax rate is in Live Oak for the initial purchase (approx $230)

o   Insurance? Liability is covered by whoever’s vehicle is towing it at the time.  If we want coverage that protects the trailer, less than $50/year.

·         Lion’s Club

o   Have Spoken to  President (Peter Brinkerhoff)?  Yes

o   They have agreed to have the Trailer in their name? Peter has agreed to have the trailer in Lions name.

o   Registration sent to their PO Box has been okayed? Yes

·         Insurance

o   How does insurance work? Liability is covered by whoever’s vehicle is towing it at the time.

o   Do we need to purchase additional insurance?  If we want coverage that protects the trailer, less than $50/year (I don’t believe it’s necessary but committee can decide.)

·         Long Term Storage

o    Springview Mini Storage will allow us to keep the trailer there. Manager used to be a Life Scout.  Will need to sign a yearly contract like everyone who rents there.  They will charge us $1/month.

o   Must be easily accessible  to the majority. Gate hours:  access is from 7am to 7pm 7 days/week so a little planning will be necessary.

·         Short Term Storage

o    Not necessary.  See long term above

·         Size of trailer

o    Recommend nothing larger than a 6x10 single axle trailer.  This trailer could be towed by almost anyone in the troop with a full size suv or truck.  In fact, a couple of days ago I saw a Honda CRV towing this exact sized trailer (wouldn’t recommend that though).

o   Can be towed by ½ ton SUV/Van/Truck? Yes

o   Number of Axles? Single

·         Commitment by the Sub-Committee.

o    After the trailer is purchased and registration is squared away, the sub-committee’s job is done.
