It's a Great Day for Scouting!
Community Partnerships
The Golden Empire Council is excited to have numerous partnerships with Community Organizations that offer the Scouting program unique opportunities to experience what Northern California has to offer; many at a discounted rate.  Some of the exciting upcoming events include an overnight campout at Raley Field after a Sacramento River Cats game and Soccer Matches at Bonney Field with the Sacramento Republic FC.  Visit our Scout Day Webpage for more details.  Check back often for more partnerships and events!

Camp Card Sale
The 2016 Camp Card Sale was a HUGE success.  Our Scouts sold over ¼ of a MILLION dollars of Camp Cards!  Over 700 Scouts sold their 20 cards and earned a FREE River Cats/Scout cap and a FREE ticket to a River Cats game and more than 50 Scouts earned free Day or Resident Camp by selling either 100 or 250 cards.  We even had a Scout sell 1,000 cards to earn a FREE iPad! GREAT JOB! Visit our Camp Card website to see all of our winners.
Lastly, we are already planning for the 2017 sale and we need to know how we can improve the sale.  Please send your feedback to Andrew Dilliner at Andrew.dilliner@scouting.org.
Popcorn Sale
The 2016 Popcorn sale is just around the corner.  We have some great enhancements in store for this year's sale.  There is an updated calendar, a new prize program, new above and beyond incentives, new technology, AND a brand new partnership with the Sacramento Republic FC. With all of these exciting additions, we need your Popcorn Chairs to learn about them and be prepared.  Be on the lookout for popcorn specific mailings and e-mails regarding trainings and kick offs. Visit our Popcorn website for updates and information.
TROOPS IN THE NEWS
100 Years Old !!
A Hundred Years of Scouting celebrated by Golden Empire Troops
Since 1916, two Boy Scout troops – Troop One in Sacramento, and Troop One in Roseville -- have offered a premier Scouting program for Scouts to develop their outdoor, teamwork, and leadership skills as they work towards becoming Eagle Scouts.
Both troops have a legacy of hiking, camping and community service and between them, have produced a total of almost 600 Eagle Scouts in their 100-year history.
Troop 1 - Sacramento - In the May edition of Inside East Sacramento, you can read a great article online about the history of Sacramento Troop 1.  As stated in the article "Troop 1 is reportedly the oldest continuous Boy Scout unit west of the Mississippi River."  In its first few years, the troop consisted of members of the First United Methodist Church. Today, the unit is around 90 scouts strong, from all over the region, and has strong parent and adult leader support.
In honor of Sacramento Troop 1, there will be a celebration at 6 PM on June 11, at The Center at 2300 Sierra Boulevard, Sacramento.  Please go to http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/ShowPage.aspx?3531363932397L33343636363331 for more information.
Troop 1 - Roseville - On that same day, thousands of community members will join past and present members of Roseville Troop 1, along with State Senator Jim Nielsen and Roseville City Council Member Bonnie Gore, to celebrate 100 years of BSA Troop 1 in Roseville. This Troop was chartered in Roseville California October 1st, 1916 by Reverend Thomas Mee from the Roseville Methodist Church.
The Roseville event will feature food, live music, and an extensive display of Troop 1 memorabilia from the past 100 years.  Boy Scouts from Troop 1 will provide demonstrations and static displays of their scouting skills and activities.  This event is also on June 11, 2016, at the Placer County Fairgrounds. Click here, for more information.
Please join all of us in the Golden Empire Council in congratulating our Troop 1s on this historic anniversary!

LAST MONTH'S RECAP
Local STEM Events
Big shout out to Crew 136 and Crew 1 who competed in the SMUD solar regatta for the first time. Their boat "RA power" named after the Egyptian sun god RA really showed off there STEM skills!
The next Solar Regatta which will be held at Rancho Seco on May 5 and 6, 2017.
VOA Masquerade Ball
The 2016 VOA dinner and dance was held in the Woodland Scout Cabin, and drew quite a large crowd. Compared to the few wandering souls of last year, this dance was lively with many a Disney song played and good food to be had. The theme was masquerade, and seeing everybody parade around in their masks and fancy attire was extremely entertaining. The 2016-2017 VOA president, Ale Ruiz, was inducted as well as the vice president of program, Meagan Donaldson. Venturing leadership awards were awarded to Dylan Wilder, Alex Wilder, Meagan Donaldson, Ale Ruiz, and advisor Mark Wong. Leading into dinner which was hamburgers and hot dogs was well as various side dishes brought by attendees. Then we transitioned to the dancing! The songs were  dance worthy and something to get excited about, and a personal favorite was when the adults had to get up and dance for the youth, no exceptions allowed. The night wrapped up around 9:30 and it was sad to see everybody go. This is one scout who cannot wait for next year's dance!!!
