Journey to ExcellenceJTE
How Does Your Unit Measure Up?

It is not too late to conduct a few unit activities, have some fun Scouting and fulfill one or two more JTE Objectives. Adult Leaders working on their Scouter's Training Award can take leadership of a JTE Objective or two and satisfy a recognition requirement.

National Council provides easy to use JTE Spreadsheets that compliment the JTE Scorecards. Download the appropriate unit spreadsheet, fill in the data and see where your unit measure out at. See what it takes to get to the next level. Plan on being GOLD. After all, we are the GOLDEN Empire Council.

Spreadsheets can be found on the National Website at:
Keep Your Youth Protection Training Current! It's EASY!

It was reported last month that 9.4% or 1208 GEC Scouters have allowed their Youth Protection Training to be in default. Unfortunately the trend is going in the wrong direction. This month 10.7% or 1403 GEC Scouters have lapsed Youth Protection Training. YPT is and remains a central tenet of how our youth are protected from those who wish to do harm. Those who have expired training certificates need to bring up *My.Scouting.Org, sign in, go to "My Dashboard", select "My Training" and then select YPT. This screen will show that your training is expired and allow you to retake the course. Please do so immediately. This is a simple task to accomplish, it gives you the adult Scouter information on how to keep our Scouts protected and signifies that you are an informed adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America.

Unit leaders, please check on the YPT status of your adults through use of "Training Manager" on *My.Scouting.Org. Also, please be sure your adults have correct and active e-mail addresses listed in their profiles. YPT status update e-mails are sent to all adults as their YPT gets close to expiring. However, this important part of keeping YPT current can only happen if a correct e-mail address is listed.

We Need Your Help

It's not too early to think about the 2016 Camp Card Sale! We had a huge sale last year and we want to make this coming year's sale even better! But, we need your help to make this happen.

You can help by answering the 3 questions below:
1. Other than the usual grocery store and fast food restaurant deals that everybody wants to see on the Camp Card, what other vendors could be included to make our card more marketable for your Scouts to sell?
2. Could you help us secure these partnerships?
3. Do you know a local franchisee of a fast food restaurant or service establishment that has a large foot print in the Sacramento area?
We will begin to secure potential sponsorships this month with the intentions on having a finished product by January 1.

Please help us in making it easier for Scouts to earn their way to camp. E-mail me at, Andrew.Dilliner@scouting.org with your ideas on prospective vendor partners and if you can help us secure these partnerships. We will begin to secure potential sponsorships this month with the intentions on having a finished product by January 1. Your information and assistance will make this sale a record year for your Scouts and the Golden Empire Council!

National Youth Leader TrainingNYLT

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what they must KNOW, and what they must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

NYLT is a six-day course offered in 2 weekends. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

Spring Course Registration Now Open April 8-10 & 22-24 - Placerville

Popcorn Sale - Highlights

Congratulations on a successful 2015 Popcorn Sale. The Popcorn Sale ended last week and here are some of the highlights:

Our Packs and Troops earned more than $250,000 to fund their Scouting programs; a 10% gain from last year's total!
-          More than 150 Scouts earned the Blaster Blitz Prize
-          Of the 153 units that sold popcorn, 86 had an increase in sales; that's more than half!
-          67 units, or 44%, earned the Above and Beyond 3% commission bonus!
-          12 units (Packs 22, 28, 88, 107, 134, 166, 385 & 787; Troops 363, 380, 435 & 828) more than doubled their 2014 sale!

These results could not have happened without the time and effort of all those unit and
district popcorn chairs! Thank you for all of your hard work, I know our Scouts appreciate your dedication.

Be on the look-out for a brief survey about the 2015 sale and how we can improve next year.
