Subject: [Sgatewaylist] Scout Expo 2015 - Merit Badge Counselors Still Needed
Please respond to Howard Sant ScoutExpoMBMidway@gmail.com directly.
Greetings Merit Badge Counselors:
First of all...Thanks to those of you have have already volunteered to help with the Merit Badge Midway at Scout Expo 2015, April 17-19, at Beale AFB. Your help is so appreciated. So far we have 9 merit badges that are being offered in whole or in part. Aviation, Basketry (partial, drop-in class), Citizenship in the World, Coin Collecting, Communication, Stamp Collecting, Digital Technology, Insect Study, and we're working on confirming Radio.
WE NEED MORE!! We would like to offer First Aid (always needed), other required merit badges, fun merit badges, challenging merit badges, STEM-related merit badges, or craft-related merit badges. These can be conducted as drop-in stations, half-day classes, or even full-day classes.
We are publishing a list of prerequisite requirements for the various merit badges on the Scout Expo website. If the boys complete those prerequisites in advance and attend the classes at Expo, they will be able to complete the merit badge. If they just attend the class or even part of the class and work on some of the requirements, they'll be able to at least have those requirements signed off and go home with a partial. A few of the merit badges will just be drop-in classes where the Scouts can drop-in and work on crafts or individual requirements.
As I said, we need more merit badges, therefore MORE MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS! Here's who we need:
1. If you are already planning to attend Scout Expo and can carve out Saturday (April 18th) morning and/or afternoon to conduct a class, we need you!!
2. If you are not already planning to attend Scout Expo and can carve out Saturday (April 18th) morning and/or afternoon to conduct a class, we need you!!
Please email me back right away at ScoutExpoMBMidway@gmail.com and let me know which merit badge or badges you can help with. We can hammer out the details of the class together and identify any questions we might have of Beale AFB. Please get back to me no later than February 13th.
Counselors need to register online as staff if they are not already registered to attend with their unit. All registration is online due to security considerations and background checks that must be conducted for all participants.
Most of the classes will be conducted the old-fashioned way...out in the open in Dragon Town , the main activity area of Scout Expo. Some classes will be conducted in the STEM area near the flight line. We will identify the best place for your class. Counselors will need to provide, if they need them, their own tables, easy-up shades, power generator, etc. Boys will be encouraged to bring their own chairs with them to class.
Again, please reply back no later than February 13th if you can come and help as a merit badge counselors.
Yours in Scouting,
Howard Sant
Coordinator, Merit Badge Midway
